BLACKJACK RULES

AIM OF THE GAME

In Blackjack, you and the dealer (the computer) are dealt two cards to start. The objective of Blackjack is to accumulate cards that add up closer to 21 than that of the dealer, without going over 21. Cards are worth their face value with the exception of Kings, Queens, and Jacks which are each worth 10 and Aces which are worth either 1 or 11. If the value of your hand is closer to 21 than that of the dealer you win. If the value of the dealer's hand is higher than yours you lose. If the hands are of equal value the deal is a push and your money is returned. If you have a total of 22 or higher (a busted hand), you lose regardless of whether the dealer also busts.

SUMMARY OF RULES

8 52-card decks are used.
The deck is re-shuffled after each hand.
Dealer stands on all soft 17's.
Doubling after splitting allowed.
No re-splitting of cards allowed.
No surrender.
Only one additional card allowed on each ace when splitting a pair of aces.

HOW TO PLAY

William Hill Casino Blackjack is played with eight fifty-two card decks. After each game has been played, the used cards are shuffled back into the deck. All face cards are valued at ten and the cards from 2-10 are valued as indicated. Aces can be valued at either one or eleven; if counting the ace as eleven would put the hand over twenty-one, the ace is automatically counted as one instead. You do not need to specify which value the Ace has as it's always assumed to have the value that makes the best hand. The value of a hand is the sum of the values of the individual cards. For example, a hand containing a Jack, 3, and 4 has a value of 17.

Your chips are stacked by denomination (£1, £5, £25, £100, £500) at the bottom of the screen. Select the amount you would like to wager on a given hand by clicking the left mouse button on the chip of that denomination. The amount wagered per hand may be increased or decreased by placing the mouse on the stack that you wish to add or subtract to your bet. Each time you click the left mouse button you will add a chip from that pile to your planned wager amount. Likewise by clicking on the right mouse button you can decrease your planned wager amount. You may repeat your last bet by simply hitting the "0" button of your numeric keyboard. Other keyboard shortcuts are summarized below.

You begin a hand of blackjack by placing a bet on the table as described above. You will then receive two cards face up. The dealer will receive one card face up and one face down. Once you have been dealt your two cards (and based on the nature of these cards) you can do the following by clicking with the left mouse button on the appropriate button:

HIT

Requests another card. You can request a hit as many times as you like, but if your total goes over twenty-one, you will Bust and lose the hand.

STAND

Requests that you receive no more cards. The hand as it currently stands will be judged against the dealers.

SPLIT

If you have two cards of the same denomination, a Split button will appear. You can split your cards into two hands and play each hand separately. Your original bet will be duplicated for the new hand, and each hand will be played out as usual. A pointing finger will appear over each hand indicating which hand is active. The split option can only be used once per hand -- you cannot split part of a split hand.

DOUBLE

If you select this option, two things will happen: you will get exactly one more card, your turn will end, and your bet will be doubled.

After each player has pressed either the Deal or Pass button, the Player and Banker are dealt two cards. All tens and picture cards are worth zero, aces are worth 1, and all other cards are worth their face value. If the value of cards exceeds 9, then the value is adjusted by subtracting 10 from the total.

INSURANCE

Whenever the dealer's up-card is an ace, the player has an option of taking insurance. The player may opt to take insurance by clicking on the "Insurance " button. If you do not wish to take insurance, you may simply click on one of the other buttons (hit, double down, stand, etc.) to proceed with the rest of the hand. If the player believes that the dealer's down-card is a 10 ranking card, then the player is permitted to place a side bet of half the original wager as insurance. If the dealer does have a 10 ranking card, the player is immediately paid 2-to-1 on the insurance bet, but the original wager is lost unless the player too has a blackjack and pushes with the dealer. Here the player is simply betting that the dealer's unseen card is a 10 valued card.

HOW TO PLAY

Depending on how many hands you have bet, the dealer will deal each hand, (including himself) one card. You will then be dealt your second card. The dealer will not receive any more cards until you have finished playing all your hands.

The object of Multi-hand Blackjack is to obtain the highest possible value with out exceeding 21 on each hand. All face cards (Kings, Queens and Jacks) have a value of ten (10) and the Aces can have a value of one (1) or eleven (11). An ace will have a value of 11 as long as the total of your hand does not exceed 21. If your hand exceeds 21 the ace will have a value of 1 and not 11. If your initial two cards on each hand do not total 21 then you may request additional cards, this is called a 'Hit'. If your hand does not go bust, (i.e. exceed 21) and still does not equal 21, you may continue to request additional cards until your hand goes bust, reaches 21 or you decide to 'Stand'. You would then move onto the next hand. If you are dealt a Blackjack, (an ace and a card of value ten) the dealer will automatically lose against that hand, unless his single card is an ace or a card of value ten.

After you have finished all your hands the dealer will draw his second card. Any of your hands that have gone bust are excluded and you lose that hand. If the Dealer's hand is less then 17 he must continue to draw cards until his hand equals 17 or more. In the event of the dealer not going bust, the value of both the dealer and your hand/s are then compared. If your hand/s are stronger, the Casino will pay you twice the amount originally wagered. If you win on a Blackjack you will be paid out 1.5 times your original bet, plus your bet back.

Playing Multi-hand Blackjack at the Casino is easy. Upon starting the Multi-hand Blackjack game for the first time you will be presented with the Blackjack table. You will see that it has 5 places where you can place a bet. To play a hand you need to click on one of the areas that say 'Click Here To Bet', the minimum bet will be placed in this area. You can click on any of the 5 areas, depending on how many hands you wish to play.

You can increase or decrease the amount you wish to wager with the 'Increase' and 'Decrease' buttons or by clicking on the bet area. The size of the column of Casino chips will change as you do this.

Once you have decided on the size of your bet and the number of hands you wish to play, start the game by clicking on the 'Deal' button.

The Dealer will deal one card to each of your hands and one card to himself. He will then deal your hands a second card.

As soon as each of your hands have received a second card, starting from the rightmost hand, you will be able to decide whether to 'Hit' or 'Stand'.

Depending on the value of your first two cards (of each hand), you may also be able to 'Double' or 'Split' on the hand you are currently playing.

If the value of your cards is 9, 10 or 11, the 'Double' option will be available. Clicking 'Double' will double your bet for that hand and you will receive only one more additional card.

If the value of your cards is the same, or if you have the same two picture cards (i.e. two Kings, two Queens or two Jacks), the 'Split' option will become available.

Clicking on 'Split' will enable you to split your hand into two separate hands. Each hand is played separately as you would any other hand. If you get an Ace and a card of value 10 on a split hand, this is regarded as 21 and not Blackjack.

If the first two cards of the hand you are playing are an Ace and a card of value 10, then you have a Blackjack and the hand will automatically stay for you. You will then be moved on to the next hand.

If the dealer's first card is an Ace, you will be asked whether you wish to take 'Insurance'. By clicking the 'Insurance' button you will bet against the dealer getting a Blackjack.

If you do not wish to take insurance, click the stay button. If your first two cards are not Blackjack and the dealer has an Ace for his first card, you may take insurance by clicking the 'Insurance' button. You may still continue without taking insurance by choosing to click either the 'Hit' or 'Stay' buttons.

If you draw another card (i.e. hit) and the value of your hand now exceeds 21 then you have gone 'Bust' and have lost this hand. You will then move onto your next hand or be able to start a new game, depending on how many hands you have bet.

Once you have finished all your hands the dealer will now draw cards until his hand exceeds or equals 17 in value. If the dealer's hand exceeds 21 you win because the dealer has gone 'Bust'.

If the dealer's hand exceeds 17 in value but is less than 21 the value of the two hands are compared and the stronger hand wins. The dealer's hand will play against each of your hands individually.

If your hand is stronger than the dealer's you receive double your wager back. If not, you lose your wager and can play again. If your hand is equal in value to the dealer's hand, then you 'Push' with the dealer and get your bet back.

Once the game is finished you are able to clear the table of all bets by clicking on the 'Clear Bets' button.
